Comfort Aids

We are well aware that having dental work done can be uncomfortable. We go the extra mile to put you at ease and to assure your dental work can be done as comfortably as possible.

We have available:

– if you are lying still for awhile and begin to feel cool, we have blankets available in every room. There’s something psychologically comforting about being tucked in with a cozy blanket, as well.

Chair Massagers
– our dental chairs have built-in air bladders that can massage your lower back during dental treatment. Helps to relax, and, just might be good at distracting your mind away from dentistry!

Neck and Knee Pillows
– we have pillows and bean bags available to support your head, neck, or back. A bolster under the knees can alleviate pressure on the lower back. Just let us know what your needs are and we will work to find solutions!

– if you suffer from jaw joint pain during or after dental work, a physical therapy device called TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) can help. Electrodes are placed above and below the TMJ, or Jaw Joint, on the outside of the face. Patients have told us that it allows them to keep their mouth open during dental work with less discomfort, and that they experience less discomfort after the dental work is over!

Lip Balm
– We feel it’s only fair to balm your lips if you will be keeping your mouth wide open for awhile. Our lip balm is made of Lanolin, Boric Acid, and Coconut Oil. We are often surprised when patients say that no dentist has ever done this before!

Rescue Remedy
– if you are anxious about having dental work done, we provide (at no charge!) a dose of Rescue Remedy. Rescue Remedy is a homeopathic preparation of 4 flower extracts that are known to reduce anxiety. We put 4 drops of RR in a few sips of water for you to drink. Just let us know if you would like some.

Nitrous Oxide, or Laughing Gas
– We have available Nitrous Oxide gas administered by a nasal hood. We have found it helps anxiety, yes, but also time perception is altered so the patient is less concerned with how long the appointment takes. And the gag response is greatly reduced. It makes the whole dental experience go smoother, and the best part is, you are legal to drive immediately after the appointment!

iPOD with headphones
– our office iPODS are programmed with a wide variety of music and podcasts to help you tune out the sounds of dentistry!

Cetacaine Rinse
– Cetacaine is an oral topical anesthetic that the patient swishes around the mouth. It helps all the oral structures to be less sensitive to what’s going on in the mouth. Great help for gaggers!
