Worn Teeth

Worn teeth are a major problem as we advance in age. It can occur from grinding the teeth together, or from misaligned teeth that don’t fit together in the way nature intended. Once the enamel is worn off, the exposed dentin (the middle layer of the tooth) is softer than enamel and the tooth wears down faster. Often, these exposed areas of dentin can be stabilized by reinforcement with composite filling material. If the wear is due to grinding, a Nightguard can be made to help to contain the ongoing damage. Frequently orthodontics (braces) can put teeth in a better relationship to chew with each other and prevent further wear and breakage, (and even patients who aren’t concerned about how their teeth look sometimes choose orthodontics to address the root of the problem!)
