Be like the bird that, pausing in its flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings. ~Victor Hugo

BANA Testing

The BANA test is a 5-minute chairside screening test for periodontal infection. It tests for the 3 most common and riskiest pathogenic bacteria. Although the test is simple, it is highly sensitive and highly specific, and gives information in 5 minutes.

To perform the test, some biofilm is removed from one or more periodontal sites and smeared on a test strip, which is inserted into the processor. When the processing cycle is complete, the strip is removed. If P. gingivalis, B. forsythus or T. denticola were present in the sample, the test strip turns blue. The darker the color, the higher the concentration.
