There are many patients that have had damage to their jaw joints, for whom dental work can be very uncomfortable, both from opening wide, and from staying open for an extended period of time. TENS (Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a physical therapy device used to reduce pain and increase the production of endorphins in the area. Electrodes are placed across the area of the TMJ (jaw joint) and the patient holds the control unit to adjust the intensity of the current. We have observed that in many patients there is dramatically less discomfort both during and after dental work!
